I'm not sure what about this story isn't just a re-purposed press release, but it does show how Google's AdSense is the primary driver of the growth the company has experienced. Basically, by making ads easy for every publisher - regardless of size - to put ads on their site, Google has reached a large number of people by allowing for very small niches to be targeted. The fact that their own search engine not only displays ads but often points to sites that wind up hosting AdSense ads doesn't hurt either.Yay, Google!

(Page 1)2. What's perhaps most interesting about Schmidt's comments is how he subtly introduces the idea of Google as a content distribution network. It's one thing to think of Google building the pre-eminent advertising OS; it's yet another for them to dominate content delivery as well. Is Google becoming the universal TiVO? Might be an interesting acquisition for them to get into the TV space. TiVO's got deals with big cable companies (like Comcast) now. Before you know it, their footprint will be something to be reckoned with.
